You look terrible. I look awesome.
My favorite Glee character? Hands down Britney. Did you know that dolphins are just gay sharks? Watch this video about Heather Morris, the actress/dancer behind Britney. And I agree -- I would love to see her character sing and dance to Britney Spears' Baby One More Time.
musicromping: The Pretty Reckless
Here is the new music video for Make Me Wanna Die, The Pretty Reckless' first single. You may be familiar with the band due to the singer being Taylor Momsen -- aka Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl. The raccoon eye make-up and teenage angst work a lot better for her in her singing career than in her GG role. I kind of like it.

DC-wide drinking game?
I mentioned in a previous post about this new "trend" of Bros Icing Bros. Is this for serious? I would be filled with glee if I was wandering about DC and randomly saw bros being "iced" or whatever terms you use. City-wide games entertain me. Like the Nike commercial where all of NYC is playing tag. Alyssa Rosenberg describes the trend in her Washingtonian article:
"Last Friday, the snark-centric blog the Awl reported a new trend sweeping frat-oriented dudes nationwide—walking up to one of your friends, handing him an alcopop (an alcoholic soda, for all you non-bros), and announcing “you got iced, bro.” Once that handover occurs, the unlucky recipient has to take a knee and shotgun the whole bottle. Unless, of course, said recipient is packing Ice him- or herself—in which case, the first person has to drink both beverages. That night, I left for a weekend getaway with a group of friends who decided it’d be hilarious to adopt the trend. A war ensued. Ices were hoarded, packed in pockets, hidden in sweatshirts, handed down when more people arrived, and used to seal business deals."
Alyssa goes on to defend "icing" saying that "Washington could use more surprises and more reminders of the joys of goofiness. Let the games—and the Icings—begin." And I can't say that I disagree.
musicromping: Matthew Hemerlein
My friend and I met Matthew Hemerlein at the 9:30 Club on Sunday after we saw him playing violin with U.S. Royalty. We stopped by the Reyes + Davis Gallery downtown to hear him play at an art auction and reception benefiting Project Create last night and got the chance to hang out with him and his sister for a bit. They are really great and I really enjoy his music.
Listen to him play the strings in this remix of La Roux's Bulletproof. I can't stop listening to it. He told us it was recorded last summer but is just now blowing up (obviously in connection with the popularity of the original).

I really need a puppy.
Found at Rockstar Diaries. Kingsley is too cute. Reason seven thousand why I need a puppy. He defines romping.

Please don't judge me.
In the last 24 hours, several incidences have occurred making me question my functionality in society. I am not really embarrassed by any of these but people definitely passed judgement on me so maybe I should be. Well, oopsy daisies.
Incident #1. Yesterday for lunch I got a happy meal. They put it in the Happy Meal box which is too large to fit in my satchel so I carried that bad boy proudly back to my office. People judge an adult walking down the street with a Happy Meal box. They judge you hard. But think about it....a happy meal is the perfect amount of food. And sometimes you really just want some nuggs.
Incident #3. I was standing on the metro this morning when I felt a little breeze on my back. Upon investigation, I realized that the button on my dress must have come undone during the bus portion of my commute. Now there was no indecent exposure - I was in no way throwing caution to the wind while aboard the metro - but still....it really isn't sending a good message to the public about my ability to dress myself. And reaching around to fix a button at the top and back of your dress is not a stealth maneuver. People noticed.
So my apologies, DC, for embarrassing you. But in other news, Kiefer is absolutely adorable and I spent a bit of time last night cuddling him and romping about. Another picture below.
Delightful treats.
Yesterday, Jess sent me this link of Cupcake Cupcake Toppers. They need to be incorporated into some of my cupcakes :)

a new baby!!
One of our horses just had a foal last night. Mom wants to name him Kiefer since he was born during 24 :) I will have to take lots of pictures when I go out there tonight!

New York, I love you, but you're bringing me down. With that empire state of mind.
Listen to LCD Soundsystem incorporate "Empire State of Mind" into the end of the performance of their song "New York, I Love You [But You're Bringing Me Down]" at their concert this weekend. It starts at around the 5:30 mark. (found at NYMag)
happy Monday!
Sorry for dropping the ball with posting at the end of last week. My Thursday was a bit busy before taking Friday off to do some riding in Keswick, Virginia. That part of Virginia is so beautiful and fortunately the weather was great, my horses were wonderful (for the most part :) and I got some enjoyable snuggle time in with TR while he was laying down napping.
Last night, I went with some friends to the Sound Bites event at the 9:30 Club benefiting D.C. Central Kitchen. They opened up the outside for local restaurants to give out free samples (which included 9:30 Club cupcakes) while bands played on stage inside. It was a fun event and we met lots of interesting people.
Some other interesting DC news: There is going to be a Bojangles in Union Station. I've never been to one but I have some friends that went to Duke and Bojangles seemed to be a staple in their college diet. Also, people in AdMo should stop yoinking ferrets.

Glee.
I cannot decide which Glee performance I liked more this week...Dream On or the Safety Dance. And Gaga next week? Amazing.

I'm still recovering from last night's GG finale.
Last night was the Gossip Girl season finale and, like in past seasons, the episode was packed with ridiculous drama. I don't want to give anything away for those who haven't watched it yet but for those who have and are still trying to make sense of everything that went on, check out these two recaps...one from New York magazine and one from Glamour's Smitten blog. I am so teams Chuck & Blair and Nate & Serena so I think you know how I felt at the end of the episode.

This is America
Hey everyone, it's Becky again. Having moved from London to DC last Monday and spending the last week in Oklahoma City, I was quickly reminded of all of the differences between the UK and the US. Today, for some reason, I have spent the day thinking about various things that make me happy and I came to realize that a lot of these things (perhaps spurred on by my surroundings) are uniquely American. I thought I would share a few and hopefully encourage everyone to take a few minutes of your day to think about what makes you happy about our great nation.
1. Target.

So simple, yet so great. Especially their cheap, durable, functional work out line. I bought these on Saturday and they are awesome and amazingly soft.
2. Taylor Swift.
If you haven't watched the music video for this song yet, I highly recommend it.
3. July 4th.
Fireworks, red white and blue themed food and drinks, warm weather, a day off to spend with family and friends, what's not to like?

4. Baseball.
Especially going to baseball games. Beer, hot dogs, and a couple hours of strikes, outs, errors, homers and double plays. There is nothing better on a hot summer night than a baseball game.
Any other suggestions? Leave them in the comments :)

a slumber party essential.
This doesn't look very practical or comfortable. But I guess if your kid went to a slumber party with this bad boy the rest of the kids would think he/she was a badass when they woke up in the morning and stepped out of the shark's mouth completely unscathed. Or they'd just think he/she is a nerd. Or they would all have terrible nightmares. Hard to say...kids are so unpredictable.
Speaking of crazy kids, this little girl is pretty funny. She will probably be getting her own tv show after this.

Hipsters Throughout History
I don't think I am interested in seeing this film: The Human Centipede
NoMa outdoor film series began last night, playing free movies and featuring local BBQ from Smokin' Somethin' every Wednesday at 7pm. Movies being played this summer include Wall-E, Donnie Darko and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Last night, U Street Music Hall had a DJ named Harry Hotter spinning. I hope he sported some sweet Harry Potter like glasses. And perhaps a robe.
I just discovered the website DC beer (thank you, DCist).
The I Love the 90s film festival is currently taking place every Friday at Gateway Park in Rosslyn through September 3. Tomorrow night's movie is My Best Friend's Wedding.
Speaking of the 90s... (found via BYT)
These girls have skillz. But I really wish their mothers had made their costumes consist of more clothing.

Beat Memories: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg
Today during my lunch break I walked over to the National Gallery of Art to check out the Beat Memories: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg exhibit. It is set up in three of the gallery's smaller rooms so I could easily walk through in less than an hour. Most are portraits; the earlier ones are taken in New York City while the later ones follow him after his relocation to San Francisco. Many of his photos include Beat Generation writers Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs and include captions documenting the dates and what they were doing at the time the pictures were taken. I really enjoyed it and would encourage you to check it out.

Interesting new items.

A Scots design student has created these Social Spheres to help block out unwanted noise so that you can enjoy a nice, pleasant conversation while in a noisy bar. These lightweight, goldfishbowl-shaped headpieces come in either a Couple size or for Inidividuals. I really hope these don't cross the pond and get big in the US. It would seriously hinder my bar-room dancing.
Some things to celebrate.
This week is World Cocktail Week. Happy Hours are thus required. And you can return to healthiness this Saturday when DC Yoga Week begins. Apparently Playboy is coming out with a 3-D centerfold, which I'm sure all of my guy friends cannot wait for. And I am quite excited for next week's Glee...particularly NPH and him singing Dream On with Mr. Shue.

Help name the National Zoo's Andean Bear cubs!
The National Zoo's Andean bear cubs, born in January, will be making their debut appearance on May 22. The bear keepers, volunteers, and the embassies of Peru and Venezuela (countries in which Andean bears are found) have come up with four potential names for each the boy and girl cubs and are allowing the public to vote for the final name.
The options for the male bear are Bernardo, Juco, Churun, and Atiq. For the female, they are Caridad, Paqarina, Chaska, and Roraima.
Just a fun fact - their mother's name is Billie Jean.
Click here to read more about the choices, including their meanings and origins, and to vote for your favorites.
