Call when you want but there's no one home.
Lady Gaga's latest video for "Telephone" premiered on the tv channel Elise and I were watching while getting ready in Vegas. It is nine and a half minutes long and it is weird. But you can't look away. I find Lady Gaga fascinating...she has created and maintained this completely out-of-the-norm persona and while many people argue that she is crossing the line into too bizarre, you have to admit that you still can't look away or ignore her. This video proves no different. The Culture section of The Atlantic deconstructs Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video in this article, demonstrating once again how nothing Lady Gaga does is without a lot of thought and construction. finally spring :)
Last weekend was the first weekend of spring and it was amazing. Thank goodness we can say goodbye to all of the snow we had this winter. I took full advantage of the warm weather, riding my horses outside and sipping cocktails on outdoor patios!

mmm, Cupcakes.
I love these fun cupcake kits from Meri Meri.
Which reminds me...I checked in with Washingtonian's cupcake cup today. I can't contribute too much, as I haven't even heard of half of those included, but I was surprised to see that Curbside beat Baked and Wired...their strawberry cupcakes are absolutely amazing. But I am glad to see that my personal fave, Georgetown Cupcakes, is still in the running!

Gimme that fish.
I have never eaten a McDonald's filet of fish. And I really don't intend to. Initially, I just thought this commercial was creepy and the phone vibrating in the beginning a little jarring. But it pushed through my creeped out barrier and made me laugh. It was frequently referenced throughout our Vegas trip. And I even noted a Burger King (or was it Wendy's?) filet of fish commercial the other day and how boring it was. So well done, McDonald's. I still will never eat one of these sandwiches but I will encourage my friends to do so and start singing this song as they are about to take a bite.

Quite the romping interruption.
When a Fainting Goat is startled, its muscles freeze for about 10 seconds. This usually results in the goat falling to its side. Please explain how natural selection has not done its thing here.
After some Google investigation, I discovered that there is an International Fainting Goat Association created to "promote, preserve and protect the Fainting Goat". To register your goat with the organization you must submit a photo of your Fainting Goat "in the down position". These animals seem pretty silly. But if I owned one I suppose I would rarely be able to stay sad...I'd just walk outside, give one of these guys a little scare and have myself a good giggle.

new music find
I am a Zooey Deschanel fan - I enjoyed her in Elf and 500 Days of Summer and think her style is adorable. I knew she was in a band but I must admit that I am new to all of the She & Him hype. After seeing numerous positive reviews, I just watched the recently released "In the Sun" video, the new single from their upcoming album Volume Two, being released March 23. I wasn't blown away but enjoyed it and agree with Pitchfork that this is "the most downright delightful thing you will watch all day." It reminds me of High School Musical without the extreme saccharin-sweetness (don't get me wrong - I love High School Musical (particularly the third one) but there is a place for that level of hyped-up life enthusiasm). I'm excited to listen to more of their album...it sounds like perfect laid-back spring weather music :)

This creative VW ad reminds me how much I am looking forward to summer beach vacations :)
Top Chef to be filmed in DC!
I know I am a few days behind on this (time doesn't exist in Vegas) but thankfully my friends kept me informed that the next season of Top Chef is going to be filmed in DC this spring, starting April 4. Washingtonian is already coming up with great quick-fire challenge ideas!
When in Vegas.
My apologies for the unexplained hiatus. I decided to give myself an early birthday present and spend a long weekend romping about in Las Vegas - my first ever trip to Sin City. Overall, it was fantastic and baller. We stayed at the Wynn, partied at a table at XS, gambled, ate deliciousness, saw Love, the Beatles Cirque du Soleil. I even overheard Audrina Patridge discussing the casting of her new love interest on The Hills while standing about five feet from her in the bathroom. That actually isn't that great but she and her boyfriend Ryan Cabrera were the only "celebrities" we happened to see. That is a quick Vegas overview but more posts are sure to follow :)

What would be in your dream house?
When I was little and imagined my grown-up dream house there was one thing that I made sure was included: a slide from the top floor down into the basement that was actually a giant ball pit. This wasn't a one time idea....I held onto this for many years. But over time I realized this may not be so great. Here is why: in my mind this ball pit was HUGE. Like you would be swimming around in there. But then I realized that you couldn't swim in balls and if its that deep you could drown. Or I guess suffocate? Either way, what a terrible way to go. So the idea got the boot. This amazing staircase reminded me of that dream. But it seems much safer. Debatable if its more fun, though.

Anthropologie to do weddings.
Anthropologie will be launching a wedding brand in spring of 2011 that will include wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, jewelry, shoes, lingerie, invitations, decorations, gifts, etc. I am curious to see what they come up with....particularly for bridesmaid dresses and decorations.
Everybody needs to play games.

Now that I no longer have DVR, Gossip Girl is really one of the few television shows I keep up with. I know it isn't the most intellectually stimulating but I love it. Their style, NYC, the music...its great. It finally returned last night after its hiatus and I don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it yet but I will say this - I know it probably won't last long, but I am all for Serena and Nate. They are so pretty together.
Almost as great as Gossip Girl is reading the NY Magazine blog on Tuesday mornings. Writers Chris and Jessica go through the ep and detail the realistic and fake aspects, tallying up their plus and minus points. They are hilarious. And the commenters are pretty great, too.
Also, this episode was called "The Hurt Locket". I'm not even sure how to respond. That just seemed necessary to point out.

oh, Monday.
It is already Monday and once again I am wishing I could have a caffeine injection to get my week started. I enjoyed a nice and long weekend riding my horses and spending time with good friends in the increasingly springish weather. We spent some time walking around Georgetown yesterday (sans coats!), saw Alice in Wonderland (it was enjoyable :) and went to the new Georgetown Cupcake store on M Street. And of course my weekend ended with some Oscar watching. Now its time to catch up on all of the goings on since I left on Wednesday!

Have a lovely weekend
(image from Matias Troncoso)
I will be away for the rest of the week enjoying a long weekend in Virginia with my horses and then spending time with Becky while she is here from London. Have a great rest of the week and weekend! And please enjoy these...
Oyamel is kicking off their Tequila & Mezcal Festival with free tequila tasting!
Ultimate New York playlist. Just because there will always be a special place in my heart for NYC.
Check out some of the DC Oscar parties going on.
This week is Restaurants Unleashed Week. Participating restaurants choose their deals, which include prix-fixe menus, a free dessert, 20% off, complimentary wine, etc.
March 1-7 is Yelp! Drinks Week...happy hour deals all day every day.
What is this chandelier made of? Thousands of tampons.
I noticed this new crepe place, Crêpe Amour, while driving through Georgetown last week. Their menu includes Mac and Cheese Crepes. Sounds delicious.
Liquor infused cupcakes? Yes, please.
Those look like great romping shoes.
I'm not usually one to post pictures of celebs and comment on their style but there are a few things in this picture that caught my attention. I like the burst of color added to SJP's otherwise dark ensemble through the hot pink scarf. I also really like her shoes. But most of all, I love the man's kicks in the background that are not only awesome, but that also match her outfit. Think of the romping I could do in those bad boys.
Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
Alice in Wonderland comes out this Friday and I'm hoping I might have time to see it when I get back in town this weekend. I have to admit that at first, I was a little skeptical that it could be made into an entertaining, movie-length film. But after seeing several trailers (including this one and the below) and reading this NY Magazine review that skepticism is quickly fading. I've also been reading Through the Looking-Glass on my bus-rides this week which has been adding to my excitement for the movie - I can't wait to see Burton's take on the illogical world of Wonderland and am also looking forward to hearing/seeing how they mix in the soundtrack.

ok GO!
Check out the new Ok Go! video for This Too Shall Pass - I rarely watch music videos all the way through but this one actually kept my attention :)
Who doesn't love vodka and techno music.
According to this NY Post article, a Russian American version of Jersey Shore is in the works, described by co-creater Elina Miller as having "plenty of vodka, techno music and guys wearing Adidas pants, leather jackets and gold chains, and driving souped-up cars. There will also be a lot of hot, decked-out Russian girls." This sounds amazingly terrible.

I love checking out girly style and design blogs. One of my favorites right now is Cupcakes and Cashmere. I love her sense of style and her ability to look amazing while pairing steals and classics. And the pictures from her recent vineyard trip make me extremely jealous of her warm California lifestlye :) I've been meaning to buy a pair of Hunter rainboots for the rainy spring weather but have been holding off, debating what color. I've been leaning towards Navy but her red ones are making me reconsider a bright, statementy pair... maybe I should go with the Pumpkin I've been eyeing?
