Embarrassing stories make me smile.

True story. I'm a big reader. I decided that I needed a more uplifting book after all of the sadness I've been reading (A Reliable Wife, about to finish The Road) plus my life being in slight disarray. I needed a quick break from work so I decided to pop over to Barnes & Noble and get The Secret - lame, I know, but its been so hyped up (Sam was reading it in Sex and the City, which I re-watched last week) I was interested and figured I could at least enjoy all of the positive thinking concepts it discusses. Who doesn't like telling themselves how awesome they are? I poked around, not really sure where to find it when I came upon the "Self Help" section. I giggled to myself as I peaked around, only one other guy in the section. Sidenote: I had just noticed how the Advil in my purse jingles around like I'm a pill-popper when I move. I'm browsing about when the guy starts talking to me, asking questions about his friends birthday present and the such. That's right, I was chatted up in the Self Help section of the bookstore. That really just happened.

For future reference, The Secret can be found in the "New Age" section. And my new friend strongly recommends it. I'll let you know what I think.

Some funnies...

Spring, I can hear you coming.

I know the weathermen are still predicting the occasional snow flurries, but the elements of spring are undeniably starting to appear. The last few mornings I have excitedly noted the sounds of birds chirping while waiting at the bus stop. And it is getting brighter out both before and after work. If you cannot tell, I can't wait until spring and warm weather and everything that comes with it....outdoor happy hours, riding my horses in the field, fun dresses, kickball on the mall, outdoor romping....just to name a few :)  (image from Casanova Wong)

I do heart cupcakes...

There is a cupcake craze going around the nations capital.  The Georgetown Cupcake sisters are about to have a reality show on TLC. According to Washingtonian, NYC bakery Crumbs is opening seven DC stores beginning in May. LA's Sprinkles bakery is supposedly opening a store in Georgetown sometime in the future. I have to say, this will create a personal dilemma. Georgetown Cupcake is my personal fave in DC but I hold a special place in my heart (and tummy) for Sprinkles, as it also reminds me of warm, sunny LA :)

To add to the hype, Washingtonian is currently hosting the Cupcake Cup. I can't believe how many cupcakeries there are! And that there are so many that I haven't tested yet...

On a semi-related note, check out these cheeseburger cupcakes!

happy monday :)

I've just begun my blog and I'm already falling behind on posting. This week I will resume my project and promise to get much better at it. No crazy romping to report from the weekend but I was reminded how good friends, quality time with your dad and Cactus Cantina margheritas can always make you smile :) And how much fun you can have just by finding old gems on your ipod and singing along while driving down Wisconsin Ave. with your best friend. And by "old gems" I'm thinking TLC's Waterfalls and All Saints' Never Ever...not that we were doing that or anything :)  Happy Monday!

Johnny Weir + Lady Gaga makes me happy.

Johnny Weir is eccentric and fantastic.  Fun fact - he used to ride horses.  And Johnny Weir + Poker Face makes me happy.

There aren't enough Sing-Along Piano Bars in my life.

Last night a couple of friends and I braved the gigantic snowdrifts to grab a few drinks at Mr. Smith's in Georgetown. I actually haven't frequented this Georgetown bar many times and when I have, it has been for the open Garden Patio area. This time, however, I got to experience their Sing-Along Piano Bar. Oh, it was as great as it sounds. And more.

A man named Spencer was performing with a repertoire of at least 100 tunes and taking requests throughout the night. So torn in what to choose, we narrowed our requests down to a few (completely contrasting) pairs, including Bye Bye Bye & Like a Rolling Stone and Oops I Did It Again & Nightswimming - both of which he turned into entertaining medleys. My favorite part of his performance was when he broke into the freecreditreport.com jingle. Overall, I think Spencer was great. I'd like to see him again.
